Preparedness: The Key to Emergency Water in Urban/Suburban Areas

Imagine this scenario: for whatever reason, you are bugging out, and have to travel through an urban or suburban area, or even along an interstate highway.  It's hot.  Dang hot.  And you need water.  There's no streams or lakes or ponds nearby.  Nothing is open, and there's no power to operate a soda machine, even if there was one around.  You've got a container in your bug-out bag, but you need a source of clean water.

Zurn sillcock hydrant
If there are commercial buildings, there is water available, but without a special tool, you can't get it!

What are you talking about, Backwoods?

Ever seen these special faucets on the side of a convenience store or gas station, or other commercial building?

It's known as a keyed sillcock hydrant.  They are everywhere in the suburban and urban environment.  They're used by building maintenance people for connecting water hoses for washing sidewalks, etc.  It's a good bet that almost all have good water in them 24/7/365, whether the business is open or not.  Even with the power down, there's probably going to be some pressure left, which allows you to get some hydration.

I recently drove around in the medium-sized town a few miles from my place, with an eye toward spotting these.  I spotted keyed hydrants at the following places:

  • Banks
  • Fast-Food Restaurants
  • Malls
  • Convenience Stores
  • Gas Stations
  • Dentists' Office
  • Department Store
Yeah, keyed sillcock hydrants are everywhere.

But you need one of these special keys to open one:

Wolverine PST154 Sillcock Key
Without a sillcock key, it's going to be hard to get the water.  Yeah, you could probably use the pliers on a Leatherman or Gerber tool, but why mess with all that?  Just put one of these babies in your bugout bag.

And for $6.42 on Amazon.com, why not?

Throw this little 3-ounce key in your bugout bag, and wherever you see a commercial building, most likely you can get some water, in an emergency situation and businesses are closed.

I've got one of these in every bugout bag in every vehicle in my family.  They may even be available from your local building supply store; I haven't checked.

Just a little survival tip from Ol' Backwoods.

UPDATE: Archy, a reader from Free Republic, said you can go into any plumbing supply store and ask for a "4-way".

Yep, that's it!

UPDATE: Wolf, a building maintenance engineer, confirms this will work for awhile in a power outage:
From working building maintenance for years, many large, multi-story office buildings have auxiliary water tanks on the roofs to provide adequate water pressure for the whole building. So, you are absolutely right that many of those buildings will have water AND pressure even in the absence of city water, at least for a time.

On Homosexuality and Why It Will Never Be "Marriage"

Ask yourself: why don't gays just use contract law to create civil unions, then petition the government to have civil unions get the same treatment as marriage? Why re-define marriage, when they can get what they want using EXISTING contract law?

Indeed, eight states already recognize civil unions to have the same privileges as marriage, for purposes of inheritance, next-of-kin notification, and taxes.

What homosexuals do, in a committed relationship or not, is not and never will be marriage, and forcing the government to call it that harms those of us who are married.   The government has no natural right to re-define marriage, as marriage pre-dates the Constitution, and indeed, the existence of governments.  Marriage always has been since Eden, and always will be, a man and a woman, regardless of any law or dictum any government styles as valid.

So, if homosexuals can get what they want for financial and next-of-kin purposes, WHY is so-called 'gay marriage' being pushed?  Militant homosexuals want to FORCE social acceptance of what they do by re-defining it as 'marriage'.   It is not enough for them to say "we have a civil union".  This is the same game of euphemism they have been playing for years: 'queer', 'gay', etc. are all nice words to move the needle of social acceptance by changing the language.

But a relationship based on an un-natural act that is wholly void of anything but carnal pleasure, disease, moral perversion and death will never be the same as the life-giving natural union that perpetuates the human species, no matter what name the state mandates for it.

UPDATE 4/2:  Found an article by David Burge (the irrepressible Iowahawk) that states a position similar to mine, but encourages the federal government (he may be also meaning state governments) to get out of the business of defining marriage entirely:
The solution? Maybe it’s time for government to get out of the whole marriage business altogether. Or at least to treat it as a standard civil contract between adults conferring certain privileges (wills, powers of attorney, co-ownership) and obligations (say hello to alimony and the marriage tax penalty, Bert and Ernie). Don’t want to call it “marriage”? Fine, call it a civil union, domestic partnership, blancmange, whatever, leave it open to any pair of consenting adults. Leave the holy sacrament business to churches, and if First Lutheran or Immaculate Conception or Temple Beth-El don’t want to bestow the title of “married” on a same sex couple, that ought to be their own business. You get married at a church, you get blancmanged at the county courthouse.
Yeah, I could go along with that.

Bloomberg's Phony Fudd Ads Run in 13 States

Colorado has fallen, and NYC Mayor Bloomberg's "Mayors Against Illegal Guns" is rejoicing.  And, they are pressing on to destroy gun rights in other states they see as vulnerable, by carpet-bombing them with fake Fudd pro-registration ads.

Below is an image from Bloomberg's $12 million ad campaign that will be running in North Carolina, and 12 other states: Arkansas, Arizona, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Maine, New Hampshire, Nevada, North Dakota, Ohio and Pennsylvania.

I am sad to see this targeted at my state, because many people will go along with it, right up until the whole state is disarmed.

WHEN WILL GUN OWNERS FIGHT BACK?

This is an image from NYC Mayor Bloomberg's ad that will be running in North Carolina. We have an actor (WITH FINGER INSIDE THE TRIGGER GUARD) portraying an "Elmer Fudd" hunter type who wants to ban those eeeevil black rifles, as long as his huntin' rifle is untouched. That's the LIE. Bloomberg wants to ban ALL OF IT: rifles, handguns, and shotguns. He wants us to be just like England, completely disarmed, except for the bodyguards of the elite, and the government.

I am sad to see this targeted at my state, because many people will go along with it, right up until the whole state is disarmed.

WHEN WILL PEOPLE FIGHT BACK?
Doomberg's Fudd actor, with booger hook on bang switch.
In the ads, we have a bearded actor (WITH FINGER INSIDE THE TRIGGER GUARD) dressed up in Cabella's best, sittin' on the tailgate of his putative huntin' truck, portraying an "Elmer Fudd" hunter type who wants to ban those eeeevil black rifles, as long as his huntin' gun is untouched.  (UPDATE: we have someone who came via a search for "bloomberg ad finger trigger" LOL!)

UPDATE 4/16: NRA runs an ad that shows this phony actor for what he is, and even suggests he take an NRA gun safety course!  HA!

The whole thing is as phony as a Mississippi travelin' snake oil salesman.   We know Bloomberg wants to ban everything: rifles, handguns, and shotguns. He wants these United States to be just like England, completely disarmed, except for the crooks, the bodyguards of the elite, and the government.

This is what the Fudd actor holding a shotgun says in the ad:
"I believe in the Second Amendment and I'll fight to protect it. But with rights come responsibilities. That's why I support comprehensive background checks so criminals and the dangerously mentally ill can't buy guns."
A second spot shows the same guy saying,
"Background checks have nothing to do with taking guns away from anyone."
What a load of horse hockey.

The euphemistic "comprehensive background checks" that Bloomberg (and Obama) seeks is really a COMPREHENSIVE NATIONAL DATABASE OF GUNS AND GUN OWNERS. That is a requirement for confiscation.  Obama's own Department of Justice has told him so.  And registration was followed by confiscation in California, New York, England, and Australia.  And Hitler's Germany.

When was the last time a criminal submitted himself to a background check to buy a gun?   In fact, the 5th Amendment releases them from having to go through them! Don't believe me? Read the Supreme Court case Haynes vs. U.S. (1968), where the Court ruled that convicted felons have a Constitutional right to not register a gun, because to register a gun would be self-incrimination! Only people that aren't criminals can be punished for not registering. If the criminals aren't required to register, but you and I are, why bother passing so-called universal background checks?
gun7
We've seen this movie before.

Power and control, that's why.  Bloomberg wants this nation to reach the point where if the cops see anyone with a gun, anywhere, at any time, they are automatically a criminal, and can automatically be gunned down by "The Only Ones" on the spot.

That, friends, is tyranny.  And most people in this country, sad to say, will swallow it whole, for the illusion of safety, but actually accepting the chains of slavery.  And people like me will suffer and die for it.

UPDATE #1
Alright, dang it, I'll post one of the ads so y'all can see it.  I don't want to give these people views, but we've got to see it to evaluate it.

MAYORS AGAINST "ILLEGAL" GUNS AD #2

UPDATE #2
Well, whaddaya know, Karl Rove must really be feeling the heat, because he actually had some sensible things to say about background checks today on ABC News' "This Week":

“This was prompted by the Sandy Hook murders.  Those guns were legally purchased with a background check.  This would not have solved something like that,” said Rove in a panel discussion on ABC’s “This Week.” “Let's be very careful about quickly trampling on the rights of people who -- and look, you want to get something done?  Then stop scaring people.
Rove said that there could be “mutual agreement” on many issues, including closing so-called gun show loopholes, but that heated Democratic rhetoric in the gun control debate had frightened many gun owners that confiscation was the next step
“If you say should we keep the mentally ill and the -- and the criminals from getting guns, everybody would say yes.  But that's not what this is about,” said Rove. “We're talking about, in this instance, having a registry where if a grandfather wants to give a treasured shotgun to his grandson, or granddaughter, he has to register with the government and go and get approval as the government to give that gun to his grandchild.
“Sen. [Charles] Schumer [D-N.Y.] for some reason or another, insists upon keeping a registry of guns.  Now, if there's one thing that scares a lot of people who believe in the Second Amendment, is the federal government keeping a national registry of gun sales, and gun purchasers, and gun owners,” Rove continued.
Questioned on that stance by ABC reporter Terry Moran, who said the gun lobby was frightening its own supporters, Rove said such fears were “not paranoia.”
People have a fear of this. Why do it? Why do you need it?” said Rove.
Emphasis supplied by Ol' Backwoods.

You know why they "need it".  It is for confiscation, and extermination.

UPDATE #3
GunWatch believes this effort by Bloomberg is bound to go down in failure, and that the whole thing is reminiscent of Kerry's "can I git me a huntin' license" photo op.
In the advertisement, you see many cultural referents designed to create a link to the rural gun culture. There is a pickup truck, a beard, a plaid shirt/jacket, children in the background playing on a tire swing.
But all that is undercut by the body language of the actor who is transmitting the message. It is clear that the gun is merely a prop. It is hard for me to pin exactly what screams "fake" to me from the screen. Maybe it is the time of year. Maybe it is the way he is positioned on the truck. Perhaps more alert viewers will be able to explain it better.
I do not think that Mayor Bloomberg is going to be able to fool many people in the gun culture with this message, and I do not think he will convince many outside of it to action.
(Emphasis from Ol' Backwoods.)  Let's hope he's right about how effective the ads will be.  Bloomie has been far too successful lately.

UPDATE #4

Ol' Wayne LaPierre from the NRA said his piece on Meet The Depressed Press today:
Appearing on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” LaPierre was reacting to Saturday’s announcement by Bloomberg of a new $12 million television ad campaign from Mayors Against Illegal Guns to help push senators in key states to back gun control efforts, including comprehensive background checks.
"He can't spend enough of his $27 billion to impose his will on the American people," LaPierre asserted.
Bloomie has a lotta billions to blow, Wayne.  And he has that Napoleon attitude to go with it.

UPDATE #5

Boy, does Bloomie ever have a Napoleon attitude.  He was really on a roll yesterday on the Sunday shows:

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg said on Sunday: Sometimes government does know best. And in those cases, Americans should just cede their rights.
“I do think there are certain times we should infringe on your freedom,” Mr. Bloomberg said, during an appearance on NBC.

Dear Lord!  This guy actually thinks that?  This statement alone should be his downfall, but it won't be.  Most people in NYC probably agree with Bloomie.

UPDATE #6

Apparently, the only reason Ol' Backwoods (who worships with Jewish Christians) and other gun rights advocates oppose Bloomberg's unconstitutional gun bans is because we hate Jooooooooos!  So say the geniuses Al Sharpton and Mike Barnicle on the unwatched MSNBC:

MIKE BARNICLE: Let's get down to it: Mike Bloomberg, Mayor of New York City.  I mean, there's a level of anti-Semitism in this thing, directed toward Bloomberg --
AL SHARPTON: No doubt about it.
BARNICLE: I mean, it's out there.
DAN SENOR: I don't think it's anti-Semitism.  I think it's the perception of big-city urban elites, wealthy elites, telling the rest of the little people how to live their lives.
SHARPTON: But if he were not a big-city Jewish man, in some parts I think it would be different.
Ol' Backwoods bolded the only intelligent thing in the whole conversation for ya.  It's part of the service, folks :-)

Oh, and let's be sure to tell the folks at Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership about this.  Ol' Backwoods is a member, and I'm as Gentile as Cornelius.

UPDATE #7

Emily Miller
Emily Miller, that national treasure of a journalist, points out that Ad #2 violates 3 of Col. Cooper's (and the NRA's) 4 Rules of Gun Safety.  I didn't even think about him having the action closed on his shotgun. She's right!
The first rule is to always keep the gun pointed in a safe direction. In this case, the children are playing in the yard. Although the viewers can’t see what is to the side of the truck, the man should be pointing the muzzle in the air or at the ground.

The second NRA rule is always keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot.
In the ad “Responsibility,” the man has his finger on the trigger, as if ready to shoot. While doing this, he says, “I believe in the Second Amendment, and I’ll fight to protect it. But with rights come responsibilities.” To make an ad demonstrating gun safety, the man would put his forefinger straight above the trigger guard on the firearm to indicate it is in a safe mode.

The third NRA safety rule is always keep the gun unloaded until ready to use. This would mean the man is in a situation where the gun is available for immediate use — such a deer could step out at any time while hunting or the firearm is safely stored but ready for quick self-defense as needed.

In the ad called “Family,” the man says that, “My dad taught me to hunt, and I’ll teach my kids. I’ve owned a gun all my life, and I’ll fight for my right to keep it.”

While saying this, he holds the pump-action shotgun with the action (bolt) closed, so it is impossible to know if it is loaded. To make this a demonstration of safety, the bolt would be wide open to demonstrate that it is unloaded.
UPDATE #8

maggie haberman @maggiepolitico

The state totals for Bloomy [ad] buy so far: AR- $125K,AZ-$950K,GA-$710K,IN-$475K,LA-$133K,NC-$593K,ND-$150K,NV-$487K,OH-$602K,PA-$525K

It sickens me that this tyrant thinks he can buy off my state for the sum of $593,000.

Rep Rangel: 358 = "Millions of kids killed"

Screen capture, helpfully labelled by Ol' Backwoods.
Rep. Charles Rangel (Felon, NY) spewed forth this nonsense on MSNBC  yesterday:
"I cannot believe that politicians are afraid of the NRA. If they thought for one minute that the churches and the synagogues and the priests and the ministers were saying, 'hey do the right thing and we have your back.''
We're talking about millions of kids dying, being shot down by assault weapons..."
(Emphasis supplied by Ol' Backwoods.)

The felon-in-Congress Rangel says, MILLIONS of "kids".  He says they are "shot down by assault weapons", by which I guess he means modern sporting rifles derived from the Stoner and Kalashnikov designs.

Okay, now for the truth.

This is a graph of the ACTUAL FBI crime data from 2010 (hat tip: Matt Bracken)

2010 FBI data, compiled into a graph by former Navy SEAL and author Matt Bracken.

Notice, if you please, the left bar of the graph above.  That is the number of Americans killed by rifles of all kinds in 2010, the latest year we have available.  The number is 358, not "millions".

Rangel, the felon, is either delusional, or a LIAR.  I'm betting on that second one.  And he is trying to pull the wool over the eyes of the low-information voter who watches MSNBC.

UPDATE: The Blaze concurs with my analysis.

The Bank Is Closed. What Do You Do?

Cyprus: The Banks Won't Open Before Tuesday At The Earliest

Nicosea, Cyprus, March 20.  The grafitti reads "Thieves" in Greek.
What would y'all do if the United States declared a bank holiday for over a week?

Would you have food enough at home to live?  Do you have stored fuel to run your vehicle?  A stash of cash at the very least?

Americans should start thinking about these things, because Cyprus is not the only nation whose banks are in trouble.  The theft of savings by banks and government is coming to America.  And bank closings are already here.

Prepare.  Hard times are coming.

UPDATE: Federal Reserve Chairman Bernanke is wrong, or just trying to cover up the sad state of the US banking system.  Peter Schiff says:
The banks are in the worst shape they've ever been. They are a just a few interest rate hikes from insolvency.' Losses to depositors due to money printing to bailout and due to inflation would be far greater than what the Cyprus depositors might be losing due to the tax. Banks are reckless, depositors don's care.

UPDATE 2: Riots have begun in Cyprus over the banking thefts and closures.  Does that make them Cyp-riots?

The Anti's Want a "Conversation"; This Is How It Goes

Ol' Backwoods always hears the anti-gunners and the gun-banners talking about how they want to have a "national conversation" about guns.  This is a representation of how the "conversation" will really go down (h/t Matt Bracken):

Instead of a real conversation on the merits, the anti's and the banners want to tell you what to do.

Instead of a real conversation on the merits, the anti's and the banners will take your gun at gunpoint.

What about "shall not be infringed" is so hard to understand, Progressives?

Great article:

WHAT PART OF THE SECOND AMENDMENT IS SO HARD TO UNDERSTAND?

By John F. Di Leo
Excerpt:
The Second Amendment is completely misunderstood by half the country. People who would never dream of challenging the meaning of freedom of speech, or the right to be from search and seizure, assume all sorts of imaginary limitations to the right to keep and bear arms, limitations that, upon thoughtful consideration, would be detrimental to the nation’s health and safety.Others have written whole books on the subject, but for those who don’t need a whole book, just a quick clarification, here it is, part by part.
"A well regulated militia, being necessary for the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."

Quote of the Day

Never forget: A 'conspiracy theorist' is someone who notices things without official permission -- and a "terrorist" is anybody who challenges the government's monopoly on violence.

Do your garden a favor: Put your tiller on Craigslist!

After my friend Jack Spirko went on an epic rant on the problems with tilling Friday before last, I decided to make a visual message to support the message.

At 1:40:20 in that show, Jack was pretty adamant:
Is there any benefit to tilling?  No, no, no, no, no!  Do not till!  Plain and simple, don't do it. ...  Can you tell me that tilling prevents weeds from growing in your soil?  ... You're compacting your soil, you're making a nice fertile ground for every weed seed, and you're killing everything that's alive in your soil.  That's why you seem to get a fertility burst -- you're growing on dead bodies!
Tilling does NOT prevent weeds!  They come back.   And tilling has some real downsides for gardening.

Tilling destroys micro-flora (bacteria, fungal hyphae) and micro-fauna (worms, bugs) that keep the soil healthy and form beneficial symbiotic relationships with garden plants.

Tilling mixes soil layers that have different pH - which is how plants with different pH requirements can thrive in the same area.  It's like going to the smorgasbord and mixing up all the different pots.  Not everybody likes the same thing!

Tilling also hard-packs lower layers of the soil, making it harder for taproots to go down.

Tilling causes more weeds!  It's true!  By mixing up weed seeds on the surface with the loose soil, they will just come up.

Mulch, mulch, mulch.  I didn't believe in this until I did it myself.  When you lift up that layer of mulch, you see amazing, loamy soil under there!  Plants love it!

Can you use a tiller to break up hard land to create garden beds the first time?  You can, but there are better ways.   God, I believe, gives us nature as a teacher.  If we will listen, she will show us a better way.

We can build soil by using composting and mulching.  That soil will be much superior to that created by the tiller.

I'll give Jack the final word:
If you still stop killing everything... Take your tiller, and put it on Craigslist!  No more tiller!  No more tiller!  Get rid of the tiller!
If you will stop tilling, life will come into your soil, and worms and bugs, and bacteria... your soil will have structure, and you will have life.  The soil will till itself, as Nature intended.  Nothing in nature emulates a roto-tiller.  Not even a pig.  ... That's why every time we till, we get problems.  Every time we till, we compact the soil.  Every time we till, we get more weeds.

Sorry, Friends, I caught a touch of the crud

Been under the weather, my friends.  Some kind of nasty cold/flu/sinus thing threw me for a loop.

You can't keep a good man down, though, and Ol' Backwoods should be rarin' to do some blogging tomorrow.

The Gun-Banners' War on McDonald v Chicago, Part Deux

Remember how we talked about the new push in gun control, the War on McDonald, gun prohibition at the state level on Sunday?

Here are a few stories showing how it is playing out.

EXCLUSIVE: DHS Plans Backdoor Gun Registration? - As a character in John Ross's "Unintended Consequences" put it, "Things keep happening in Missouri":
[Missouri] Department of Revenue is working with the Department of Homeland Security to install new hard and software to obtain data on Missouri citizens and transfer this information to DHS and unnamed third parties, says Kinder. Kinder and the Stoddard County Prosceutor today took legal action and held a press conference outlining the infringement on civil liberties as posted by the DoR and DHS.
The RealID Act has enough bad stuff in it to allow the Federal government to glean information from the states on whether drivers licensees also hold a concealed carry/weapons permit, thus giving a shortcut to the gun-owner registration they covet.  This, however, requires state cooperation, and that's only going to work where the bureaucrats are bought and sold to the public employee unions.  See why certain states have been chosen as the vanguard to attack the McDonald ruling?

A restraining order has been filed (scan at link above), but when does paper stop Democrats bent on trampling the Constitution?

Without a Shot - How ObamaCare will be used to force gun confiscation; obey, or else you will be denied basic access to doctors.  This state legislator / veterinarian shows us how this coming mandate can only be resisted at the state level.

Concealed Carry Coming To Illinois, Gang Capital Chicago - latest on the battle royal on Obama's home turf.  As New York was the prototype for state-level gun bans and confiscation, Illinois is the prototype for states ignoring the McDonald ruling for as long as possible.

Why Colorado is Blue - How did Colorado, home of "Red Dawn" and Magpul, become a gun-banning "blue" state?  Application of Alinsky's Rules for Radicals and "community organizing", that's how.  This article shows how it can be done in other low-population Western states, too.  Remember, the Left knows its battle to put down the 2nd Amendment gains of the last 20 years hinges on taking back the states.

Despite protests, 6 of 7 Democratic gun control bills clear Colo. Senate committees - and here is the successful result of the Obama Alinskyites' work in Colorado: state infringement of the right to keep and bear arms, contra McDonald.

Philadelphia Legislators Repackage Jim Crow with New Gun Laws - Gun prohibition has always had racist and/or classist components, but "The City That Bombed Itself" is making its play in the War on McDonald in its own way.

Gun rights advocates turn out at Teaneck [NJ] forum - New Jersey is also moving full steam against the McDonald ruling, and placing more infringements on the right to keep and bear arms.  Notice how the weasel twists the 2nd Amendment:

The 22 bills are not designed to “take people’s guns away,” Weinberg said to the more than 75 people packed into the society’s meeting room. “If you decide under your Second Amendment right to buy, purchase and keep a gun, you will do it safely and carefully.”
Funny how he left out the part about "shall not be infringed."  Which is exactly what these 22 bills do:
  • Limiting ammunition magazines to 10 rounds.
  • Banning armor-piercing and .50-caliber bullets.
  • Requiring background checks for private gun sales.
  • Prohibiting Internet or mail-order ammunition sales.
UPDATE:

Panel forwards gun violence proposals (CT)

Another state, kicking against the McDonald ruling(my comments in [brackets]):
  • Expand the definition of assault weapon [INFRINGMENT]
  • Ban large magazines [INFRINGMENT]
  • Require permit for shotguns [INFRINGMENT]
  • Universal background check [REGISTRATION, LEADING TO CONFISCATION]
  • Establish a deadly weapon offender registry  [REGISTRATION, LEADING TO CONFISCATION]
  • Strengthen laws on gun tracking [REGISTRATION, LEADING TO CONFISCATION]
  • Prohibit individuals buying more than 1 pistol within 30 days [INFRINGMENT]
  • Require permits for gun shows [INFRINGMENT]
  • Increase fee to carry pistol or revolver [INFRINGMENT]
  • Ban armor piercing bullets [INFRINGMENT]

New Gun Control Lie: States Can Ban Anything (Contra McDonald)

Part II of this article is now available.
--
Gun bans and confiscation at the state and city level are the new push of the gun-control Left.  That's clear from the near-identical gun-ban and confiscation legislation appearing in state houses all over the country, from New York, to Missouri, to Minnesota, to Colorado, to Connecticut, to New Jersey, and beyond.  These are the states where high-profile members of the Left, like VP Joe Biden, are making appearances.  Sheriffs from these states are meeting with Obama.   Letters are being written to the editors of Left-leaning newspapers in these states.  It's where the action is.

Simultaneously, a new lie from the Left on gun control has appeared. I first saw it in a comment on a Facebook thread from The Drudge Report, but have seen it in comments on other pro-gun Facebook pages, and news websites, in different forms, but all similar to this:
"The State of Colorado [for example] can ban any and all guns. The 2nd Amendment to the United States Constitution DOES NOT guarantee citizens of their respective states a right to bear arms, it only stops the national government from disarming the States."
What a lie from Hell.

They push this lie to discredit the idea (from Supreme Court case McDonald v Chicago, 2010) that the 14th Amendment does indeed incorporate the 2nd Amendment to the states and cities, protecting the right to keep and bear arms, just like other rights, from infringement by any jurisdiction.  From the majority opinion in that case:
JUSTICE ALITO, joined by THE CHIEF JUSTICE, JUSTICE SCALIA, and JUSTICE KENNEDY, concluded... that the Fourteenth Amendment’s Due Process Clause incorporates the Second Amendment right recognized in Heller. ...
Municipal respondents’ [i.e., City of Chicago] remaining arguments are rejected because they are at war with Heller’s central holding. In effect, they ask the Court to hold the right to keep and bear arms as subject to a different body of rules for incorporation than the other Bill of Rights guarantees.
Sure they do.  Of course they want a different set of rules.  For them.

To explain the concept of incorporation,  take a familiar example.  The 1st Amendment protection of the right to free speech cannot be infringed by the City of Chicago, because the 14th Amendment ensures that rights of Federal citizens are protected by the Constitution, no matter what state they may also be a citizen of, or what city they live in.  McDonald holds that the 2nd Amendment right to keep and bear arms is no different.

The Left disagrees, not on any merit, but because that threatens the power they have over the so-called "blue" states.

It may surprise you, but the Left has already conceded the 2nd Amendment argument at the Federal level. They know the Left has lost the battle to stop the judiciary from interpreting the 2nd Amendment, as it did in US v. Heller, to mean that an individual has a fundamental right to keep and bear arms.   Even Obama's harpy on the Supreme Court, Justice Sotomayor, repeatedly said to the Senate Judiciary Committee that Heller is “settled law".

However, Heller was only binding in Federal jurisdictions, like Washington DC.  It was McDonald v. Chicago that brought the axe down on state and local gun control via the incorporation doctrine, and the Left knows it.  Justice Sotomayo joined Justices Breyer and Ginsburg (a Lefty trifecta) in the dissent to McDonald, asserting:
“In sum, the Framers did not write the Second Amendment in order to protect a private right of armed self defense.”
The Left didn't want a private right to self-defense affirmed at the Federal level, but they certainly cannot abide it at the state level, where millions more will take control of their own lives.  They want to strike back against McDonald.

Many of the states the Left is now targeting have not had shall-issue conceal-carry for long, and my guess is they hope that the right to keep and bear arms does not have as much support there.  For example, Colorado, Minnesota, and Missouri passed shall-issue laws in 2003, only ten years ago.

Left lost the argument, state-by-state
The states and cities are the battleground the Left must now win on guns.  They know this.  New York is the prototype and the proving ground.  If they hope to re-take control of enough of the country to start undoing the 2nd Amendment gains of the last 20 years, then Chicago, New York, the big California cities, Detroit, Boston, Philly, all the big Democrat-controlled zones must not have even ONE more lawful concealed carry permit.  Concealed carry has advanced state-by-state, with the Federal government mostly staying out of it.  The Left knows it must win the issue back state-by-state, as well.

That is the why for the new lie.  Do not let it stand.

A Little Depressed... Going Down for Awhile

... not that anybody cares, beyond the dozen people who check in regularly.

Watching CSPAN now, with Feinstein's Circus for Disarming America.

Dear Lord, America is toast.

Too depressed to even go to the deer hunting show today.

With the US government pointing its sights at me and mine every single day, what's the use?

Why participate in the economy when they just want to take my money, my guns, my home, and my life.

They are now saying on CSPAN that you won't even be able to buy ammo without a background check for every box.

And pump shotguns must be banned.

But of course, you can smoke pot everywhere and at any time!

But Democrats want all other freedoms taken away.

Why even participate in the political system?  It's just a damned charade!  (and I use 'damned' advisedly-- this kind of deception is condemned by God).

Why even participate in the economy?  I won't.  I will make and grow as much food as I can.  I will NOT BUY anything new-- all used.

I am getting to the point where I hope this country is cursed by God, and is destroyed.  It's time to start over.
