Happy Birthday, John Moses Browning!

Ol' James Wesley Rawles, back in the sticks at SurvivalBlog, reminds us:
January 23rd is the birthday of John Moses Browning, (born 1855) the brilliant designer of dozens of guns including the M1911 pistol, Browning Automatic Rifle (BAR), and the venerable M2 .50 Caliber Machinegun. The latter is still in service in at least 95 countries.
The 1911 is still used by certain units in our own Marines, too.  And Ol' Backwoods is mighty fond of the 1911.

A lot of people don't know that the .380 cartridge was designed by Browning, as was the .45 ACP.   He also designed the 9mm Browning Hi-Power pistol, which also is a fine sidearm.

I hope Ol' John Moses is up in Heaven, and knows that his legacy of excellence in arms still continues.
